High-churn or low-LTV segments. If your CRM data shows that a certain acquisition source, discount usage pattern, or job title segment consistently churns or generates support costs that exceed lifetime value, exclude those profiles from prospecting. You're not just wasting ad spend on them — you're paying to acquire a bad customer.

Existing subscribers or members. For SaaS and subscription products, running prospecting creative at people who already pay you is a creative dissonance problem in addition to a spend problem. Separate them into a retention or upsell campaign with appropriate messaging.

Engagement baiters. On social platforms, some users engage with content compulsively — likes, saves, shares — but never buy. LinkedIn
LinkedIn's audience sizes skew large, and the minimum audience requirements push advertisers toward broader targeting than is ideal. The workaround: use Matched Audiences (your own uploaded lists) rather than relying solely on LinkedIn's demographic targeting. Your customer list is a more accurate signal of your ICP than the platform's job function categories.
